Your Guide to Festival and Rave Hair and Makeup

As the weather gets warmer, we’re thinking of one thing: rave season! Music festivals are popping up all over the country, and young people are swarming to the venues to enjoy some great concerts. If you’ve never been to a rave before but are planning on going, you might be wondering about what you should do with your hair and makeup. Keep reading to learn more.

The Bolder, the Better

There is no one-size-fits-all to a festival look. That being said, whatever your aesthetic, bold is best. The eye-catching looks are the ones that go viral regardless of whether you’re a rhinestone fairy or a chained-out goth. Don’t be shy with your festival look! Raves are a time to let loose and let your true self out.

Try Colorful Hair

Brightly-colored locks are always a hit at music festivals. Dyeing your hair for a rave might sound a little crazy, but using a semi-permanent dye means the color won’t last forever and will be easier to switch up than a permanent one. And who knows, maybe you’ll fall in love with your hair color!

Medusa’s Makeup Lunar Tides dye collection is vegan and cruelty-free, so you don’t have to worry about what’s going on your hair. Try a neon orange for a super hot modern look or a deep green for more grunge. Be sure to bleach your hair for the best results. Need more help getting a vibrant dye job? Classic Hairstyles

If you’re looking for a more classic rave look, try out Dutch braids, space buns, or bubble braids in unique patterns, or combine them! Try two Dutch braids and tie them off where you would pigtails, then separate the two sections for a total of six. Use elastics to create bubble braids in four of the six sections and create a normal braid for the other two. Add some accessories, like hair hoops or hair glitter (the glitter root is HUGE at raves), and that’s it!

If you want a pop of color but don’t want to dye your hair, try using hair braid extensions in fun colors like pink, teal, blue, or purple.

Pinterest always has great hair ideas if you need more inspiration. Try putting your own spin on a style you like!

Sparkle Makeup

Glitter and shine are all you’ll see at any rave. Rhinestones, chunky glitter, and ultra-shine highlighter are excellent for a music festival. Chunky glitter palettes are used a LOT because of the eye-catching sparkle they bring to any complexion.

Medusa’s Makeup Glittergasm Stack Palette comes with six colors to play with. Tap your favorite shade on your lips, eyes, cheekbones, or even your hairline to add pop to your look. Before use, make sure to apply The Fix glitter adhesive so that you don’t sweat off your glitter.

Don’t forget those rhinestones! Channel your inner Euphoria and go crazy with those gemstones around your eyes for an eye-catching (literally) look that highlights your features. Did you know that rhinestone makeup was a thing before Euphoria? In fact, the makeup artists in the show got it from rave makeup!

We don’t currently have a rhinestone set, but you can find them to be super affordable at any dollar or craft store. To stick them, try using eyelash glue and match them to a perfect set of falsies. Medusa’s Makeup has you covered with our 2-in-1 falsies and glue sets that work with any look.

Glowy Everything

Dewy and glowy are the vibes of music festivals like Coachella, so say goodbye to your heavy matte products. Add a healthy glow to your face with a face stick, perfect for use on your eyes, cheekbones, or lips. If glitter isn’t your style, this is the best way to add a bit of pop to your bone structure. At least you won’t find glitter everywhere for the next few months!

Poppin’ Eyeshadow

Go neon and bright with a colorful eyeshadow shade all over your lid for extra drama. We love bright eyeshadows with rhinestones and glitter, making these looks the perfect addition to a rave ‘fit. Try out our Electro Eyeshadow Palette, which has 12 stunning neon and glitter shades to mix and match however you want.

Baked eyeshadow also provides an excellent shimmer for every day, night out, or festival looks. Medusa’s Makeup has tons of colors available, like this gorgeous bright blue, so be sure to scroll our site and find your new obsession.

Instead of regular eyeshadows, why not try out some UV pigment? This neon green UV pigment is perfect for raves with blacklight… not only will your friends be able to find you, but everyone will see your stunning look even in darkness.

Graphic Liner

Dramatic graphic liner is all the rage this 2022 festival season. Show off your eyeliner skills with a classic wing, a spider web look, or add some extra lines to highlight your eye shape. Be sure to use waterproof eyeliner, so you don’t sweat off your hard work; jumping and dancing works up a sweat!.

Glossy Lips

Glossy, shimmery lips are on-trend this year, and we have the perfect product for all complexions. Our Disco Queen lip gloss is high-shine and contains micro sparkles for a subtle, natural lip look that can be layered on top of your favorite lipstick or worn alone. You’ll definitely want to carry this one around with you wherever you go.

Accessories
Now that you have your hair and makeup situated let's talk about accessories. Earrings, necklaces, bracelets, anklets, and body jewelry should not be passed over. In fact, fashion experts suggest wearing at least 10 (ten!) accessories for extra fashion points. Color coordinate your outfit with your accessories, hair, and makeup, and you’re ready to dance.

These lightning bolt earrings are simple but add a lot of *pizzazz* to your lewk. Plus, they’re totally cost-efficient!
