The Day of the Dead is a traditional Mexican holiday in honor of the dead. This sugar skull look utilizes face paints, detail brushes, rhinestones, lashes, and glitter for a girly, artistic look that will make you the talk of the town.

Here’s what you’ll need:

Steps:

  1. Make sure you’re starting off with a primed, blank canvas. Remove any prior makeup and cleanse to remove dirt/debris from your pores. Follow up with your favorite makeup primer.

  2. Paint your entire face white with white face paint.

  3. Sketch out the teeth, cheekbones, and other details with a fine makeup brush and black face paint or eyeliner.

  4. Add the rest of the colors to your face, skipping the area around your eyes. Finish other colored details.

  5. Paint the circles around your eyes with the color of your choice.

  6. Apply glitter adhesive on your eyelids and tap on colored glitter.

  7. Draw a dramatic wing with black eyeliner.

  8. Add glamorous falsies with some strong eyelash glue.

  9. Dot the eyelash glue where you’ll be placing rhinestones and wait for it to get tacky.

  10. Place rhinestones over the glue dots.

  11. Enjoy your gorgeous Halloween glam makeup look!

Pro tip: use fluorescent pigments for a glow-in-the-dark effect!

This monotone blue special effects makeup is actually much easier to recreate than it looks. You don’t have to be a makeup artist to follow this makeup tutorial.

Items to collect:

How to get the look:

  1. Wash your face thoroughly and apply a primer.

  2. Paint your entire face with light blue face paint or eyeshadow.

  3. Draw the “seams” with black liquid eyeliner.

  4. Fill the “holes” with red face paint or dark lipstick.

  5. Use a fluffy makeup brush to apply darker blue face makeup in the different “patches” and contour with it for added definition.

  6. Use this same brush to create smoky eye makeup with light blue on the inner corner and dark blue on the outer corner.

  7. Draw thin, defined eyebrows.

  8. Add mascara.

  9. Use the black eyeliner to draw “stitches” between the “seams.”

  10. Finish with bright red lipstick.

  11. Add some fun contact lenses if you want a more dramatic look.

This super simple SFX look is a gnarly Halloween makeup inspiration. All you need for this look is your typical understated glam makeup look and some fake blood. You can easily turn your day makeup into something Halloween-appropriate with just a few splatters of red that will make you look like you just walked out of a horror movie.

Here’s what you’ll need:

Steps:

  1. Always start your makeup with a clean, primed base.

  2. Blend foundation into your face and neck.

  3. Conceal any blemishes and your under eyes, if needed.

  4. Contour/bronze your forehead, cheekbones, nose, and jawline for a snatched look.

  5. Pop some light blush on the tops of your cheekbones.

  6. Fill in your eyebrows.

  7. Swipe some nude eyeshadow into the crease of your eyelid.

  8. Apply some super fluffy eyelashes for some dramatization.

  9. Complete the basic makeup with creamy nude lipstick.

  10. Once you are satisfied with your makeup look, it’s time to get out the fake blood. Ben Nye SFX blood is recommended for its workable consistency and excellent pigmentation.

  11. Dip your brush into the “blood” and paint tiny hands all over your cheeks and above your brow, giving them a messy, drippy appearance.

  12. Dip the brush back into the blood and use your thumb to spritz it randomly across your cheeks, nose, and forehead.

  13. Enjoy scaring people all night!
